Job Description
Applications are invited from citizens of Sri Lanka who are physically sound and of excellent moral character for the following post on the Staff of the Secretary General of Parliament.
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
Educational Qualifications:
- G.C.E. (O/L) examination passed in 6 subjects.
- Must include a credit pass for Sinhala/Tamil and pass for Mathematics and English.
- Achieved in not more than two sittings.
Vocational Qualifications:
- Successful completion of a vocational training course in basic Restaurant & Bar Service / Food and Beverage Service.
- Course duration: not less than one year.
- Accredited Institutions: Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management (SLITHM)/National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA)/ Vocational Training Authority (VTA) or any other similar vocational training institute.
Experience:
- Not less than two years’ experience after completing the required educational and professional qualifications.
- Role must be as a waiter/ steward or in a similar post.
- Location: star-class hotel/recognized institution.
Age Limit:
- Minimum Age: not less than 22 years.
- Maximum Age: not more than 35 years of age as at the closing date of applications.
- Exemption: The upper age limit shall not be applicable for those who are confirmed in the Public Service / Provincial Public Service.
Salary Scale:
Rs. 47,240 - 60,040 /- (according to Schedule I of Management Services Circular 04/2025 dated 25.03.2025)
Estimated Gross Initial Monthly Remuneration: "approximately Rs. 90, 000 /-" (including all allowances).
Method of Recruitment:
Two-stage process: Through a trade test and an interview.
Trade Test:
- For Applicants who meet the required qualifications.
- Assesses skills in areas related to Restaurant Services.
- Maximum score: 100 marks.
Interview Criteria (Maximum 100 marks)
- Conducted by a Board appointed by the Secretary-General of Parliament.

Terms and Conditions of Service:
- Permanency: This post is permanent and Pensionable. However, pension entitlement is subject to future government policy.
- Probation Period: initially subject to a probation period of three years.
Acting Period (Internal/Confirmed Candidates): If selected from within the The Public/Provincial Public service, an acting period of one
year applies.
- Regulations: Selected candidates are subject to Financial and Departmental Regulations applicable to the staff of the Secretary-General of Parliament.
- Pension Fund Contribution: Contribution to Widows’ and Orphans’/Widowers’ and Orphans’ Pension Fund is required.
- Medical Examination: Required.
- Security Clearance: A Security Clearance Report will be obtained prior to appointment.

Special Instructions for Current Public/Provincial Public Service Employees:

Disqualifications:

- Incorrect Information: As noted above, any inaccuracies lead to disqualification/dismissal.
- Rejection Criteria: Applications will be rejected if:
- Received after the closing date.
- Sent without copies of the required certificates.
- Not sent through Heads of Departments/Institutions (if applicable).
- Not prepared in accordance with the specimen application form.
