The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) is the country's apex financial institution, responsible for maintaining monetary and price stability, safeguarding the value of the Sri Lankan Rupee, and overseeing the financial system. Established in 1950, it is the sole authority for issuing currency and managing international reserves. Its functions include implementing monetary policy, regulating banks and other financial institutions, and advising the government on economic matters.
