The waste management system in the Western Province has been focused on developing rapidly. The total urban solid waste in Sri Lanka is 60% of the total, ie Mt. 3500 is generated from the Western Province and it is increased annually by 1.2%. Thus, by 2050, municipal solid solid waste generation is likely to exceed 7000 metric tons per day. Hence, the WPC has a special responsibility in the waste management.
