The Sri Lanka Police is the national civilian police force of Sri Lanka, established in 1866 and responsible for maintaining law and order, enforcing criminal and traffic laws, and ensuring public safety across the island. Headed by the Inspector General of Police, it comprises over 88,000 officers and includes specialized units like the Special Task Force (STF), Criminal Investigation Department (CID), and Police Narcotic Bureau. The force operates under the oversight of the National Police Commission and the Ministry of Defence, with its headquarters in Colombo.
